The recordings contain the spontaneity of the best of Gardiner’s Bach Pilgrimage (Soli Deo Gloria). Finally there’s something to the generous spirit and warmth to be had that I find in Ton Koompan’s recordings (Challenge). In terms of execution or soloists or choral diction, the later Masaaki Suzuki recordings (BIS) haven’t any competition to fear. “Christus, der ist mein leben” BWV 95 was written for the 16th Sunday after Trinity, which this year falls on coming Sunday, September 16th. “Komm, du süße Todesstunde” BWV 161 finally was written for the Feast of Purification which is always on February 2nd.
