The guitar fetched more than twice what it was expected to raise in the weekend auction in Dallas, Heritage Auctions said. All the proceeds will go to Clapton’s friend Johnny Nicholas from the band Asleep at the Wheel to help pay outstanding medical bills from his late wife’s leukemia treatment. The Fender Stratocaster was made in 2014 specifically for Clapton who used it in concerts that year. The winning bidder requested anonymity, Heritage said.
