Civilian slain, 4 cops hurt in NPA attacks


LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — A civilian was killed and four police officers were wounded when suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels attacked police stations in Bicol on Monday. Reports reaching Camp Ola showed that the slain civilian, who has yet to be identified, was hit by stray bullets when the rebels strafed a police station in Magallanes, Sorsogon. Prior to the attack on the police station, the rebels raided the detachment of the 3rd Maneuver Platoon of the Mobile Police Force. The rebels also attacked an Army detachment in Barangay Cristo Rey in Bato, Camarines Sur at around 8:30 p.m. Another group of communist guerrillas raided a police detachment in Barangay Panoypoyan, Bula also in Camarines Sur, triggering a firefight that wounded PO1 Francisco Santiago.
