PETALING JAYA: Umno has criticised the Government's move to end the contracts of some 17,000 civil servants, saying that they should not be made targets of a political agenda. Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is carrying out the duties of the Umno president, said most of them had low salaries. "What has befallen them reflects a lack of sensitivity by the Government, and furthermore, they were immediately dismissed at a time when they are preparing to welcome the arrival of Hari Raya," Dr Ahmad Zahid said in a statement on Friday (May 25). "The rakyat will not forget that the aim of DAP has been to reduce the number of civil servants by hundreds of thousands. It is not impossible that the thousands who were affected recently is just the beginning," said Dr Ahmad Zahid.
