Big Island is attempting the build a girls camp and conference center on the 2.3 acre island it is named for situated 1,500 feet from the west shore of Paugus Bay. The conference center, with a maximum of 60 guests at one time, would operate during the spring and fall months. The project requires a special exception because the island is located in the Residential-Single Family Zone. City Manager Scott Myers said Wednesday that he had not seen the suit, and therefore had no comment. In the suit, Everett said the conference center he is proposing "falls squarely within the definition of a 'conference center' under the Zoning Ordinance."
