A new permanent exhibition at the Churchill War Rooms is to show how Churchill banned whistling and imported bespoke noiseless typewriters for his staff, after becoming too irritated by their noises. The exhibition, Undercover: Life in Churchill's Bunker, will include testimony from a handful of staff members who worked closely with the prime minister in his War Rooms. He may have led the fight against Hitler, but Sir Winston Churchill also spent the Second World War battling an enemy closer to home: noisy co-workers. Lucy Tindle, exhibition manager at the Churchill War Rooms, said the show will reveal the day-to-day life of working for Churchill, from the his hatred of noise to the cabinet where he kept a secret stash of brandy and bananas.
