Hugo, a beagle, was seven weeks old when he was found inside the back of an unventilated lorry at Holyhead port, having been smuggled from Dublin along with 95 other puppies. RSPCA Cymru has launched a report to reveal the “shocking realities” of the €500 million illegal puppy trade, and highlight how “impulse puppy purchases” fund the industry. Conditions inside the two lorries in which the puppies were hidden were described by agency workers as horrendous. The animals were not given water and in one lorry someone had attempted to conceal them behind bales…
