One of the earliest Toronto shootings linked to NPF was the Oct. 2, 2011, shooting of Jefflin Beals. The 29-year-old faces a raft of weapons charges, including weapons trafficking, and participating in a criminal organization. Darnell St. Clair Wright was charged in the shooting, and last fall pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Both victims, police said at the time, had no gang ties, and three other people who were wounded in the gunfire were similarly uninvolved in gang activity. They are Denzell Desmond and Michael Mannette, respectively 19 and 20 and from Halifax, Kyle Sparks MacKinnon, 26, of Toronto and the aforementioned Richardson, 31.
