Christchurch public transport needs Government funding, health group says

Public transport in Christchurch needs to be urgently improved – but to do that, there needs to be more Government funding. That is the message from the local branch of the Public Health Association (PHA). "Christchurch has the opportunity over the next 3-5 years to develop a country-leading public transport system, but due to lack of available funding will need additional funding from central Government. The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has provided $2.5 million for three business cases looking to improve public transport in Greater Christchurch. Compared to the North Island cities, Christchurch had suffered from a lack of political leadership and ambition regarding public transport, he said.
