Punters heading to the highlight of Canterbury's social calendar today have been warned to be on their best behaviour as organisers hope to avoid drunken Melbourne Cup-style scenes. Up to 25,000 people are expected at Addington Raceway today for the 2016 Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup. Security for the week-long racing carnival has been beefed up and drunk patrons will be denied entry, police and organisers say. The first race jumps at 12.05pm and the main event, the prestigious two-mile harness race New Zealand Trotting Cup is scheduled for 5.17pm.
