Ministry of Education education infrastructure service head Jerome Sheppard said the ministry could not do all the projects at once. The Centennial building, which was given to the school by old boys and parents in 1981, will remain on site. Old boys help included providing expert engineering advice to the school, which could then be shared with the Ministry of Education, he said. Hill said NCEA examinations would be held at the University of Canterbury this year, while construction took place on the school site.
