Heavy snow forecast for CanterburyRONAN MAGUIREHeavy snow is forecast for parts of Canterbury this week and could make it down to the plains. Rainfall so far in July was 24 millimetres, well below the long term average of 64mm. Mt Hutt ski area manager James McKenzie said he had been keeping an eye on the weather and the forecast was encouraging. Snow would likely be confined to moderate and higher levels until Saturday, with a chance of "some heavy falls and significant accumulations", the forecaster said. Snow-forecast.com is predicting the ski field will receive more than 1.2 metres of snow from Wednesday to Saturday.
