Chinese general commits suicide after facing graft probe - ASEAN/East Asia

BEIJING: Senior Chinese military official Zhang Yang committed suicide at home on Nov 23 after authorities launched an investigation against him, state media said on Tuesday (Nov 28). Zhang (pic), 66, a member of the powerful Central Military Commission, was being investigated over links to fallen military officials Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou, Xinhua news agency said. Earlier reports have said the probe was for suspected serious disciplinary violations, a euphemism typically used for corruption. A source close to the former Guangzhou Military Command told the South China Morning Post that Zhang hanged himself at his home in Beijing. - The Straits Times/Asia News Network
