Chinese company approved to buy site of Taranaki abattoirCHRISTINE CORNEGE FAIRFAX NZ A shipment of locally-sourced beef was sent to China from the Stratford site last month. The Overseas Investment Office has granted consent for the sale of the Taranaki Abattoir site to Chinese-owned company Sunner NZ Limited for $1.2 million. The 12.9 hectares of land near Stratford, is already in Chinese hands, after being sold to Gold International Holdings Limited in 2014. The company then applied to the OIO for consent to buy the land outright. An initial shipment of locally-sourced beef was sent to China from the Stratford site last month.
