A China Southern Airlines plane suffered engine failure just after take-off from Auckland International Airport today, sparking a full emergency. The New Zealand Herald understands the left engine of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane shut down with 212 passengers and crew on board. Flight CZ336 departed shortly before 11am and flew 186km in a loop around greater Auckland before turning back to Auckland International Airport because of engine failure. Auckland Airport Emergency Operation Centre shift manager Gabriel Thompson said the plane taxied to a remote hardstand where it was being assessed by aircraft engineers this afternoon. Playback of the flight on Flight Radar shows the craft began its journey at 11.08am.
