China investigates subsidies for Australian wine growers

Kensington Wine is grown in the Goulburn Valley and mainly exported to China, where its considered a premium product. China’s commerce ministry said in an online statement the anti-subsidy investigation was launched on August 31 after a request from the China Wine Industry Association which said the wine imports had received subsidies from the Australian government, Reuters reports. China is the top market for Australian wine exports and is also Australia’s largest trading partner, with two-way trade worth A$235 billion (US$170 billion) last year. The majority of their wine is exported to China, where Australian wine is the most popular overseas drop. "The reason for saying this is because the data shows that the average price of wine exported from Australia to China has gradually increased in the past 10 years.
