NewsThe Chinese government today (Sept 27), donated narcotics and explosives detection equipment worth Rs 750 million to Sri Lanka, upon a request made by President Maithripala Sirisena. The statement added that robots, explosive detectors, X-Ray Security Inspection Systems, Walk Through Safety Inspection Gates, and handheld vehicle and metal scanners, were among the donated equipment. The robots, costing Rs 85.5 million, would be able to automatically detect explosives and narcotic within a distance of five metres from a person, the statement noted. Three explosive detectors costing Rs 90.5 million each, to detect weapons and narcotics, and 50 X-Ray Inspection Systems worth Rs 4.2 million each, to scan luggages were also among the donated equipment. In addition, 25 Walk Through Safety Inspection Gates each worth Rs 6.5 million, 25 Hand Held Vehicle Scanners, worth Rs 3.2 million each, and 500 Hand Held Metal Detectors worth Rs 2.7 million each had been donated to the government.
