Dr Huang noted that China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for the seventh year in a row. Dr Huang added that Malaysians “have no reason not to be full of confidence in their own country” to loud applause from the 800-odd audience. “We’re optimistic about Malaysia’s economic outlook in 2017 – that a 4.5% GDP growth is attainable, and the ringgit would stabilise and appreciate,” said the ambassador. Hailing the development achievements of Malaysia since independence as impressive, Dr Huang said it was something Malaysians should feel proud of. This is the fourth year Dr Huang is celebrating the Lunar New Year in Malaysia.
