The indictment alleges those charged were involved in a campaign started in 2002 and meant to intimidate the man, identified only as John Doe 1, to return to China. The indictment says An told the man it would be an “endless misery” for John Doe 1 and his son, identified as John Doe 2, until the charges were resolved. A relative from China was even forced to travel to the U.S. to try to convince John Doe 1 to return, it is alleged. Those charged also cased the Long Island home of John Doe 1’s son, going through his mail and trying to open a rear door, prosecutors allege.
