Child drowns in pond on Kaikohe propertyROSS GIBLIN/FAIRFAX NZ The child was found unresponsive in a pond on a property. A one-year-old child has drowned in Kaikohe, Northland. Senior Sergeant Brian Swann said police were called to a property about 11.40am on Wednesday after the child was found unresponsive in a pond on the property. "Police are currently at the scene making enquiries and have no further comment at this early stage," he said. Police did not believe the incident was related to heavy rain in the area due to the remnants of Cyclone Debbie.
