A child has died in what has been described as a “absolute tragedy”, after an accident in a Northland home on Sunday morning. Emergency services were called to the home at Awanui, in the Far North, about 10.15am. Northland Emergency Services Trust pilot and flight operations manager Sam Murtagh said the rescue helicopter responded to an accident involving a child about 10.18am. Supplied The Northland rescue helicopter responded to the accident in Awanui but was not required. “This is an absolute tragedy for the family, and police’s thoughts are with the family at this time,” she said.
