The West Coast Regional Council is investigating unlawful dumping of demolition waste after a second dumping ground was found to be breaking the rules. Issues include how demolition material from Revingtons Hotel, the old Grey Base Hospital and the Kingsgate Hotel have been dealt with. Demolition of the Millennium Hotel chain’s Kingsgate Hotel in Greymouth began earlier this month. West Coast Regional Council compliance team leader Colin Helem said council inspectors discovered demolition waste was being dumped illegally in Reefton. The majority shareholder of Sewell Peak Farms Ltd is former regional council chairman Andrew Robb.
