A Bangladesh Chhatra League member was killed and 17 others sustained injuries on Monday in two separate infightings between rival groups of the ruling party’s associate organisation in Chittagong and Sylhet. Chhatra League activist Omar Ahmed Riaad, a Sylhet MC College student, was stabbed to death and two others, Najmul and Nasim, were injured during a factional clash at the city’s Tilagarh area, confirms Zedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. Injured Nazmul and Nasim were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital. Police arrested a Sylhet City Corporation staff Fakhrul Isalm, 30, from the area on suspicion of being involved in the incident. ASI Alauddin Talukdar of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital’s police outpost said five people belonging to the two rival groups had been admitted to the CMCH.
