Chewy on Thursday will report on its first quarter 2019 results, in its first earnings release since becoming a public company. Instead, analysts and investors are more interested in Chewy’s forecasts for the second quarter and beyond. He believes Chewy’s customer service strengths and reputation as a pet specialist, along with the loyal subscription customers, will keep Amazon at bay. Chewy recently boosted its discount on initial Autoship pet supplies orders following aggressive discounting in the pet category by Amazon. Amazon, Basham said in a research note, began offering up to 50 percent off on first Autoship orders on pet food in June, and aggressively discounted pet supplies this week for Amazon Prime Days.
