Chawkbazar victims urge govt for financial support


Around 70 were killed and 50 others injured in the Chawkbazar Churihatta fire on February 20. Many families lost their only bread earner, and many suffered financial loss in this fire caused by negligence issues. Initially, government provided help and support to the victim families, but later all sort of aids became unavailable. On March 28, in a public hearing at CIRDAP International Conference Center, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon promised to support the victim families, but failed to keep his word. On April 2, as assistance to the victims, 37 private banks of Bangladesh donated Tk30 crore to Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund, which is yet to be received by the affected families.
