Charter court marks 28th anniversary

Charter court marks 28th anniversaryConstitutional Court President Nakarin Mektrairat on Sunday reaffirmed the court's commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding public rights and freedoms. Speaking at an event marking the court's 28th anniversary on April 11, Mr Nakarin said the court played a crucial role in protecting constitutional rights, maintaining the supremacy of the constitution, and preserving Thailand's system of democratic governance under a constitutional monarchy. The court has consistently upheld constitutional principles while establishing key legal precedents to guide both the executive and legislative branches," he said. Such cases, he said, demonstrate that even when governments invoke national security or public interest, state power must remain subject to constitutional constraints. Mr Nakarin said sustainable democracy depends on limiting state power and safeguarding fundamental rights.
