Simmering efforts to remove Confederate statues in cities across the country have been reignited in the wake of last weekend’s deadly clashes at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville. In Kentucky, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray said Saturday he would start the process to remove two Confederate monuments from the city’s courthouse. Since 2015, at least 60 public Confederate symbols have been removed, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. DRIVE TO REMOVE CONFEDERATE SYMBOLS SPURS BACKLASHIn Baltimore City, Councilman Brandon Scott called for all four of the city’s Confederate-era monuments to be taken down. In Jacksonville, Fla., activists are calling on city council members to pick up the pace and remove Confederate monuments.
