On average, whites are far more likely to get hired and are paid more than nonwhites. White families on average have 14 times more wealth than black families and nearly 11 times more than Hispanic families, according to the Census Bureau. That helps explain why only 9 percent of white families live in poverty, while nearly a quarter of black families do. That’s nearly 15 times greater than the typical black household’s net worth of $9,211.
