The heads of four charities said that the case for “immediate action” on air pollution was “incontestable”, insisting it was the biggest environmental threat to UK public health. In a letter to The Times, they urged the government to adopt more rigorous World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines on fine particles in the air by 2030. Currently, the UK has legal limits more than twice as high as those recommended by the WHO.
