Police are unlikely to lay any charges in relation to an Oamaru man being shot in the head at close range by a fishing line shooting machine. On Tuesday night emergency services were sent to Beach Rd, just south of Oamaru. A 62-year-old man, who remained in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital, and another man were using the air-powered bait launcher to shoot a line out into the surf south of Cape Wanbrow. The machine malfunctioned. While the two men were ‘‘trying to get it going again’’, the bait launcher fired, shooting the man in the head.
