A 28-year-old man was taken into police custody yesterday after a search of a bush area in East Otago. A police spokeswoman said police responded to reports of an ‘‘unknown vehicle and footprints leading into the bush’’ on a rural property on State Highway 85, northeast of Palmerston, just after 3pm. Police searched the area and a man, from the Hauraki district, was found with a firearm and was arrested. The charges the man faced could not be confirmed last night but he was expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court on October 28.
