Probably to make things right at the tertiary stage, the Federal Government has just approved 20 new private universities in one fell swoop. In all, there are now 99 private universities in Nigeria. Moreover, there are 96 public universities in Nigeria, 44 owned by the federal and 52 by state governments. Between 2010 and 2014, the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, established 12 new federal universities. Incidentally, new public universities have sprung up under the Muhammadu Buhari regime, including those for the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force.
