Centre to monitor TV prog displaying tobacco products

The Union Health Ministry has urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to develop clear guidelines and check the list of all the elements of film rules. The move came after the Health Ministry observed that film rules under COPTA await proper implementation in India even after five years of their existence. Implementation of the film rules on TV was found to be very low. During the study period, 22 per cent of TV programmes were found to depict tobacco. When tobacco is depicted in films and TV programmes, it helps the tobacco industry to grow.
