NEW DELHI: The Centre has sent a team to Assam to review the situation after Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases were reported from the state. Japanese Encephalitis is vector-borne encephalitis transmitted by Culex groups of mosquitoes. “Union Health Ministry is providing all logistical and technical support to the Assam Government in terms of surveillance and diagnostic kits to strengthen their efforts in addressing JE," he said. The central team is headed by Sanjeeva Kumar, additional secretary, union health minister, and is accompanied by senior officers from National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, New Delhi. For diagnosis, till date 28 Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals have been identified and the union health ministry is providing diagnostic kits to the state free of cost.
