The Centre is working to chalk out a road map for promoting cruise tourism with state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities across the country. While the Shipping Ministry is working with other ministries like the Environment and Tourism Ministry, the State governments are also being consulted on the project. The Shipping Ministry feels that there are four key areas where interventions are needed. Indian ports will also play a major role in the initiative and the Centre plans to extend financial assistance to ports for development of infrastructure. A dedicated policy on cruise tourism has been in place since the time of the UPA-I government, though little action seems to have been taken on the ground.
