When retired auctioneer Ewen Rendel came across a slice of Invercargill Saleyard history, he knew it needed to be shared. Back in 1984, the Saleyard celebrated its centennial anniversary with a special insert in The Southland Times. “I've gone through a fair bit of trouble and – much to my wife's disgust – a fair bit of expense too, but it's history,” Rendel said. “It's real Southland history and it needs to be put up somewhere where people can see it,” he said.
