Cathay and Cathay Dragon May passenger numbers shrink


Cathay Pacific Airways (0293) said Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon carried a total of 18,473 passengers last month, plunging by 99.4 percent year-on-year, due to 97 percent capacity reduction during the pandemic. Revenue passenger kilometers dropped by 99.1 percent year-on-year in May. The two airlines carried 98,710 tons of cargo and mail last month, a drop of 41.3 percent year-on-yaer. Cathay carried less than 1 percent of the number of passengers it carried last May, with an average passenger volume of around 600 per day. In the first five months this year, the number of passengers carried dropped by 71.2 percent from a year ago against a 59.5 percent decrease in capacity and a 67 percent decrease in RPKs.
