A company that performs private cataract surgery is to be investigated after a series of patients developed serious post-operative complications. NHS England is planning to examine seven incidents reported by A&E departments relating to patients treated by Community Health Eye Care (CHEC), one of the five main cataract surgery companies in England. All had developed serious complications, including infections, injuries and detached retinas following surgery. CHEC was founded in 2012 and has more than 25 clinics nationwide. In 2023-24 it treated 372,000 patients.
