Cash crisis: Huge debt mounts, workers and suppliers unpaid

Nairobi county employees and MCAs have not received July salaries while contractors and suppliers have not been paid for months as cash crunch hit the city county. The money will fund the counties Sh36 billion budget up from last year’s allocation of Sh13.8 billion. The Star has learnt that some contractors have not been paid since 2013, leading to frequent protests in the city. The county government is set to receive Sh16.42 billion as national government for the 2016-17 financial year. The waste collection firms, under the Waste and Environment Management Association of Kenya, are demanding more than Sh100 million from the county.
