The severed face of a man was left on a street by a cartel seeking to expand its dominance over one of Mexico's favorite tourist destinations. The severed face was placed inside a black bag and was accompanied by two warning signs directed at a local gang known as 'The Virus' and Mexico's three different government branches. The New Jalisco Generation Cartel, considered by authorities to be the most powerful criminal enterprise in Mexico, claimed responsibility. The gang signed off the poster with its Spanish initials, C.J.N.G [Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación], declaring it seeks 'an Acapulco free of extortion.' The New Jalisco Generation Cartel was founded in 2009 and was once allied to El Chapo's Sinaloa Cartel before becoming the strongest cartel in 2018.
