Photo: HTNew Delhi: Leader of the opposition Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday called for “careful thought” to be given to the selection of the next director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after a meeting with the prime minister and Supreme Court chief justice to narrow down the choice. Kharge said, “It is important that the person who is chosen for the post should have past experience in vigilance, Lokayukta or in the CBI itself. Any random selection will defeat the purpose of having a stringent selection process. Careful thought needs to be put into this selection.”While the selection committee was constituted under The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013, the recommendations of the outgoing CBI chief are also taken into account before choosing the successor.
