With a global cume over $555 million, it has passed Puss in Boots's global cume to become the second-biggest "about a cat" movie in box office history. Even if Captain Marvel tops the unadjusted-for-inflation grosses of The Lion King, it might still get trampled by the Jon Favreau-directed "live-action" version of The Lion King when it opens in July. Captain Marvel is set to pass $200 million at the domestic box office and $600m at the global box office sometime today, which will be four times its production budget. It'll pass Doctor Strange ($677m in 2016) as soon as tomorrow as it tries to pass $750m global by Sunday. The question is whether any other non-superhero movie (especially outside of Chinese blockbusters) or non-Disney biggie will come anywhere near wherever Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame end up.
