Capsizal near Sundarbans caused by ruptured hull

The hull of the lighterage ship, that capsized in the Bay on Friday morning, had been ruptured the night before as rough waves slammed it repeatedly into the mother vessel during loading. “It tilted sideways after travelling about eight to 10 kilometres from the mother ship,” Mongla Port’s Harbour Master Md Waliullah told reporters on Saturday. Vessel owner Kazi Golam Faruk said he was doing “everything possible” to salvage the ship. “It will be possible to take a final decision after a salvage team visits the site,” he added.
