Kuznetsov is known more for his setups than his shots, but Wednesday night he and fellow pass-first center Nicklas Backstrom provided the scoring for the Washington Capitals in their 4-1 win against Philadelphia. Goaltender Braden Holtby made 33 saves as Washington snapped its two-game losing skid for the team’s first win after its recent five-day bye week. With the Capitals up 2-0 after 20 minutes, the Flyers started the second period with a phantom goal. It was swept out, but the goal horn sounded for a Philadelphia goal and Flyers players celebrated on the ice. “I don’t know how they see those holes or how they find them,” Oshie said of Kuznetsov and Backstrom.
