Capital chaos: aftershocks, flooding and slips

Photo: NZ HeraldA large aftershock has rattled Parliament as the House sits for the first time since an earthquake hit the upper South Island. Finance Minister Bill English was answering a question about the cost of the Kaikoura earthquake when a 5.6 aftershock was felt. Meanwhile, all train services in Wellington have been suspended until further notice following two large aftershocks felt in the capital this afternoon. The train closures come after wild weather brought flooding, slips and road closures to the region. "We have slips that have come down on to houses and on occasions those people have been evacuated."
