Canterbury rugby mourns passing of Ken Bain, aged 96KIRK HARGREAVES/FAIRFAX NZ Ken Bain pictured chatting to Crusaders CEO Hamish Riach in 2015, played nine games for Canterbury after returning from service in World War Two. At 96 years of age, Ken Bain was Canterbury's oldest living rugby representative. Bain, who served in the New Zealand Army in World War II, played nine games for Canterbury in the 1946-47 seasons. Bain played for the Technical Old Boys club side, which later became Shirley. When Bain visited Rugby Park to watch the Canterbury rugby team train in 2015 he told media of how much he enjoyed playing the sport in his younger years, and continued to be a keen supporter of his province and the All Blacks.
