The government cut short the deadline for using the defunct Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from December 15 to December 2. The deadline for using old Rs. 500 notes at petrol pumps and buying airline tickets at airports has been cut short to Friday from December 15 announced earlier. While junking old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes on November 8 last month, the government had allowed their use for utility bill payments for 72 hours. Also, the government has dropped its earlier announced plan to allow the use of old 500 rupee notes for payment of toll at national highways from Saturday.
