American authorities say Koretskyy set up a trucking company that was “likely” designed just for drug smuggling, and that he ran drugs both into Canada from the U.S., and within Canada. In Cifuentes-Villa’s testimony against El Chapo, he outlined the alleged leading role Tello played in the group’s Canadian network. But documents show Canadian authorities were looking at Koretskyy for over two-and-a-half years before he was arrested. It’s alleged Koretskyy then took a bag from his Canada-based partner that held $57,000, and was promised $20,000 more would follow later. Koretskyy confirmed at this meeting, U.S. authorities say, that his fee for two runs was $155,000.
