Liberals tighten rules to prevent prospective bidders from talking about military procurements and shipbuilding


Last year Procurement Canada told companies interested in the Liberal government’s planned purchase of new fighter jets not to talk to journalists. In April 2018 Procurement Canada started discussions with companies on a future pilot training program worth around $4 billion. In March, Postmedia sent the department questions about potential issues with welds on the new Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships. But Procurement Canada immediately warned Irving Shipbuilding, which is constructing the vessels, that the news organization was asking questions. In addition, there have been ongoing problems with how Procurement Canada has handled other military purchases.
