It’s an NHL-heavy World Cup, all right, but it’s missing the marvellous Subban. OK, so the nickname needs a little work but that doesn’t excuse the fact the reimagined World Cup of Hockey will be devoid of one of its marquee talents: the marvellous P.K. On Friday, as the Russian Ice Hockey Federation named former L.A. Kings defenceman Slava Voynov to its final World Cup roster, again the NHL and NHLPA flexed its muscles. If we’ve learned only one thing about the revamped World Cup of Hockey it’s that the NHL and NHLPA are taking full ownership of the tournament’s operations. Looking at who made it and who didn’t, though, it’s hard to argue Perry and Hall are more deserving of a chance at a World Cup title than those named.
